How does Reflexology work?
Reflexology is a simple, non-invasive touch therapy that has many health benefits. It is a treatment that involves the application of gentle pressure to reflex points located on all the surfaces of the feet. These points relate to all of the organs, glands and bodily parts. As these points are massaged and have pressure applied to them, the bodies natural healing process is stimulated. Vital energy is encouraged to flow freely, energy blockages may be dissipated, physical toxins and emotional blockages are released, optimum health and inner peace can be restored.
What should I expect when I go for a Reflexology treatment?
A reflexology treatment should be a pleasurable experience, you should be made to feel relaxed and comfortable.
A treatment usually lasts between 45 minutes to an hour but the first treatment may take around an hour and a half, this is because the therapist has to fill in a consultation form which asks you about your medical history, yourself, your lifestyle, employment, diet etc.
You will then remove your footwear and make yourself comfortable on a couch. Prior to the treatment the therapist will look at both feet to see if there are any problems with the feet, what the temperature is like, skin tone, muscle tone etc. The treatment begins with a short opening routine on the feet before the main treatment and finishes with a relaxing massage.
Is it painful?
The treatment should be gentle but firm, however clients may find that some areas of the foot are more uncomfortable than others and this can point to an imbalance in the corresponding body area.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese word meaning ‘spiritual energy' or ‘universal life-force energy'. It is a safe, gentle, non-intrusive healing technique, that is mainly hands on where energy flows through you not from you into the person being treated thus it cannot do any harm as the receiver is taking what is required, the healer is not forcing it. There is no pressure, manipulation or massage, and as energy flows it helps to balance, heal and harmonise all aspects of the person. Reiki is a holistic treatment that treats the person as a whole including body, mind, emotions and spirit which in turn has many beneficial effects that include relaxation, feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.
What can I expect from a treatment?
The first treatment you will be asked about yourself, your lifestyle, work etc. so this will take a little longer than subsequent treatments. You will remain fully clothed and will lie on a couch. The treatment takes about an hour, during which time you will fully relax, as the Reiki flows you may feel hot sensations, cold sensations, tingling, you may even just fall asleep.
What can I expect from an Aromatherapy massage treatment?
On the initial first treatment I would begin with a consultation, finding out about you, your lifestyle, work, health, medical history. See what oils are best suited for you and your expectations etc. This would be followed by blending the massage oil and giving a full body massage - for this you would need to remove your clothes down to your underpants - you would be covered by towels to ensure your privacy and only the part that is being massaged would be exposed. Aromatherapy massage is very relaxing, gentle and soothing.
What is crystal healing?
Crystals are powerful and effective tools for healing and have been used for many centuries for this purpose. Each crystal has its own unique energy vibration which is a result of its chemical composition, colour, inner atomic structure and outer form. Crystals have a very orderly structure to them so when we place them into an energy field that is not orderly they will work to reorganise that energy into an orderly fashion.
What can I expect from a crystal therapy treatment?
Firstly I would talk to you and ascertain what you know about it, have you had this kind of therapy before, ask some basic questions, eg name, address, doctors etc. I would ask you to remove your jewellery and shoes, then to lie on the couch during the treatment. You will remain fully clothed. I would begin by using relaxation techniques, decide what crystals to use, in what way to use them, they may be placed on you or around you, again there are other techniques that can be used. The whole treatment usually lasts up to an hour.

No, complementary therapies can be used to relax and to balance you and to help reduce your stress. Which therapy you have is up to you to decide after discussing it with your therapist. What is a healing crisis?
When you have any complementary treatment you can trigger what is known as a healing crisis.
This could be experienced as any positive reactions / feelings.
Tiredness that is caused by the release of toxins, after the body has rested and the tiredness disappears you should feel refreshed and full of energy.
You may experience a headache or migraine which will be more intense than normal but which will clear sooner.
Any cold or flu will develop more rapidly but heal more quickly.
You may experience a heightened emotional state - feeling a little emotional, perhaps even tearful. This is due to the cleansing of the mind and emotions caused by rebalancing of the chakras. It is a good way for you to release tension.
You may feel very thirsty and want to drink more fluids.
These reactions are normal and show that the toxins are being expelled from the body so that it is rebalancing and cleansing itself.
Aftercare Advice
It is important to follow aftercare advice so that the full benefit of the treatment can be gained.
Rest and relax. This ensures that the body is able to heal itself sufficiently.
Drink plenty of water (mineral or tap) or herbal tea to help speed up the removal of the toxins from the body.
Coffee, tea and cola should be avoided as they contain caffeine. Caffeine is a stimulant and therefore will not help you to relax.
Avoid stressful situations to ensure the treatment is long lived.
Do not eat a heavy meal as the body will be trying to balance the systems.
